PADM 0637 - Introduction to Epidemiology

This introductory course will give students a basic understanding of the concepts and methods used in epidemiology. Specific methods and quantitative techniques for describing patterns of disease and determining disease origin will be discussed. The purpose of this course is to prepare students with the knowledge and skills to understand the function of epidemiology in order to communicate and to apply the basic principles. Application of epidemiology to public health, such as screening as a method of disease control, will be illustrated using specific examples and readings. This course will focus on both written and oral communication skills, collaboration, and problem solving. It is recommended for students entering public health administration professions.
