PSYC 0364 - CE: Psychopharmacology

This capstone course will introduce students to the mechanisms utilized by drugs to alter neurophysiological function and affect cognition and behavior. Concepts related to the brain's neurochemistry pertaining to drug action will be covered. The course will also introduce students to the brain's natural reward system, how it changes following addition, and the physiological basis for tolerance and withdrawal. Lastly, common drugs of abuse, their mode of action, and changes in the brain that occur from their chronic use will be covered.

Prerequisites: PSYC 0101  and PSYC 0312  (or PSYC 0341  or BIOL 0129 ); or permission of instructor.
