The scientific study of religion dating from mid-19th century animists and naturalists. Study topics include: religion as a basic social institution with both integrative and diverse tendencies, organizational patterns and interrelationships with other institutions, theoretical developments within the field, and changing emphases in the function of religion as a major source of meaning and values in human societies.

Prerequisites: SOCI 0101 .
