SOCI 0328 - Women and Aging

This course focuses on the gendered processes of aging. The course is divided into three main sections: 1) an overview of foundational ideas in the study of gender and of aging and the life course; 2) personal and structural aspects of the life course from a gender perspective, including considerations of life course diversity; and 3) specific aspects of old age and aging as they are defined and conditioned by gender. Specific course topics include gendered norms and constructions of the life course, work and retirement, relationships and marriage, families, sexuality and sexual identity, health and illness, caregiving, and cross-cultural perspectives on aging and gender.

Prerequisites: SOCI 0101  or GERO 0101 .
