Maps and data visualizations provide important visual communication mediums to convey hidden meanings and patterns within complex data sets. This course provides the fundamentals of cartographic and data representation techniques for print production and the web. Students will be exposed to hands on experience in cartographic representation, cartographic interaction, semiotics, visual design and other concepts and techniques that guide the design and production of visual geographic information. Students will leverage existing commercial and open source technologies to create their own static and interactive visualizations.
