MATH 0611 - Innovative Teaching

An activity-based format and the common core standards of mathematical practice will be used to create a learning environment that fosters an exploration of the processes of teaching mathematics. Emphasis will be placed on using teaching strategies that involve new interactions between teacher and student - such as inquiry techniques, and encouraging the individual development of fundamental concepts in mathematics. Students will discover pedagogical tools by experiencing them, watching videos, and reading case studies. The focus will be on learning effective ways of teaching mathematics, including students learning how to ask good questions, facilitating whole class discussions, writing prompts that guide students' inquiry, and assessing students' content knowledge and reasoning abilities.
