ENGL 0108 - Exploring Film Studies

Film is a native part of cultural heritage and experience, and this course provides students with critical insights and concepts to understand more fully how the medium works, and to examine how it influences and shapes cultural perspectives and beliefs. Students examine the aesthetic elements of film including cinematography, editing, sound, script, acting, direction, and mise-en-scene. Students also consider contexts such as cultural roles, genre, political issues, economics, history, as well as the role film has played in shaping individual views, opinions and beliefs.

Prerequisites: At least one of the following: First Year Journey or ENGL 0101
