ENGL 0212 - Exploring British Literature Since 1780

Credits: 3

Students read and discuss British literature since 1780, an age of revolutionary change, considered from a range of genres and diverse perspectives.  This course asks students to connect the artistic, literary, and intellectual movements of the Romantic, Victorian, and later periods to their historical and cultural contexts; to examine how literature can both reflect existing power structures and inequalities and imagine new possibilities; and to develop practices that will allow them to read with greater pleasure and understanding as they participate in ongoing critical conversations.
