ENGL 0217 - Exploring American Literature since 1865

Credits: 3

In-depth reading and discussion of American literature since 1865. Students investigate the American experience through attentive reading and analyses of genre and such features of literary meaning as imagery, characterization, narration, form and historical/political contexts. The primary goal is to enhance the experience of literature as a source of pleasure and knowledge about human experience, and to share and learn in discussion from others about individual reading experiences. Writing assignments cultivate a strong connection between students and the reading, including research papers, peer reviews, creative forgeries, and short responses.
