THEA 0104 - Theatre and SocietyCredits: 3 What were the seeds that created the art form that is theatre today? How did the values and culture of society inform their chosen entertainment? What was happening that prompted certain stories to be told? Why this play at this time? These are the questions that will be asked throughout the semester. Students will acquire the skills necessary to critically analyze various theatrical forms and the cultural and social structure where they were developed. Focus will be on plays and major theatrical achievements made throughout history in relationship to the people, society, culture, and aesthetics of the time. Students will also learn the theory and practice of the theatre arts, including their history, as well as aspects of dramatic theory, directing, playwriting, design and acting. |
