An introduction to the field of Native American studies. The history of the 500 plus years of indigenous resistance to colonization, oppression, and genocidal policies will be highlighted. The focus will include historical, political, theoretical, literary, and artistic texts and perspectives. Issues such as removal and relocation, legal and land rights, religious rights, education and economics of the reservation, and the urban 'Indian' experience. A comparative perspective that includes the experience of indigenous peoples from throughout the Americas will be employed.
