EGST 0397 - Social Justice and Community ActivismCredits: 3 Working from a model of service learning established by Robert Coles, students in this course actively work to support the work and needs of existing community organizations, while simultaneously engaging such concepts as social identity, self/other, charity, social justice, praxis, moral obligation, and the historical examination of social justice movements relevant to their field sites. The work of radical service organizations supported by college students will be studied alongside the more reflective texts by Coles. This course requires that students participate in a minimum of one hour per week of field experience for 12 weeks in a community setting and two hours of classroom time. Prerequisites: EGST 0396 . |
