GPS 0222 - Site Planning Studio

In this course students develop in-depth knowledge and experience in the planning process as it relates to site development. Planners help to ensure that site development is guided by a community's values and the participation of local citizens. Planners work with municipal officials, private sector clients, engineers and community groups to develop plans for sites that are ecologically, economically, and socially sustainable in all stages of their development, from visioning to permitting, to engineering and construction.

Students in this course study the site planning process and create site plans in a design studio setting. Students develop skills in performing site inventory, analysis, programming and design. Students also develop familiarity and skills in several key site planning technologies including surveying, GIS, AutoCAD and graphics software. There is a computer lab component.

 

Prerequisites: Sophomore standing.
