MATH 0115 - Mathematics for Business and Social Sciences

Credits: 3

An introduction to algebraic models, with an emphasis on mathematical tools appropriate for business and the social sciences.  Algebraic equations will be used to describe and explore the relationship between two variables in a data set.  Constructing an equation that describes a data set will allow us to explore that data set using the tools of algebra.  Descriptive linear regression will be developed, and used to generate equations that can describe and explore approximately linear data sets.  The derivative function (a fundamental concept from calculus) will be introduced as an important tool in the exploration of polynomial models.

Prerequisites: High School Algebra II.
