EXPL 0216 - Ways of Knowing: Views Through the Lenses of Mathematics and Science

Credits: 3

In this course students will read, analyze and employ literature as ways of developing diverse mathematical and scientific lenses through which we can view and understand the nature of knowledge. Readings from a variety of genres (e.g. fiction, plays, essays, short stories, poetry) help students explore the fundamental questions of what we know and how we know it from a variety of different perspectives. Class discussions, in-class activities and regular writing assignments will involve students in comparing, contrasting and integrating these viewpoints across different domains and different ways of knowing.
