This course examines the varieties of Western art music from 1750 to the present. Developments in musical style will be studied in their political, historical, social, and cultural contexts. While centered on music written after 1750 in Europe and its colonies, this course also explores art music written in the United States. 

Prerequisites: Music major/minor or permission of instructor.
