ASTR 0101 - Astronomy

A broad introductory survey of astronomy that introduces students to scientific methodology and the multifaceted interactions between science, technology, and society. Topics include the history of astronomy, basic observations of the night sky, the solar system, stars and stellar evolution, supernovae, pulsars, black holes, the Milky Way and other galaxies, cosmology, and the search for extra-terrestrial intelligence. Optional observing sessions may be held on clear evenings. Students may receive credit for either this course or ASTR 0103, but not for both.
