POLS 0302 - Modern Political ThoughtCredits: 3 This course considers some of the principal texts and themes in western political thought from the sixteenth to the nineteenth century. Students focus on the theoretical ideas and questions suggested by the texts and how they have directly influenced contemporary notions of concepts such as liberty, equality, consent, human nature, community, the individual, and the state. Selected theorists may include Machiavelli, Hobbes, Locke, Rousseau, Wollstonecraft, Tocqueville, Marx, Nietzsche, and Freud. |
