GEOL 0205 - Environmental Geology: Walking on EarthCredits: 4 Every day we walk on the Earth - but what's actually below our feet? And what's the impact of our steps? This environmental geology-focused course is an engaging exploration of how the physical Earth works, the ways we use and change it, and efforts to sustain and improve its strained systems. Topics and issues focus on our changing Earth system as result of soil/air/water contamination, land use, waste disposal, geologic hazards, and resource development. Through interactive lectures and collaborative investigations students will learn how geologic principles are applied to solving local and global environmental problems - and how environmental justice issues are related to current solutions. The course is designed for students who want to get their hands dirty as they actively question; What is the Earth made of? How do we choose to affect it? How does it affect us? |
