MATH 0343 - Actuarial Problem Solving: Financial MathematicsCredits: 3 This course develops an understanding of the fundamental concepts of financial mathematics and how those concepts are applied in calculating present and accumulated values for various streams of cash flows. Topics include time value of money, annuities and cash flows with non-contingent payments, loans, bonds, general cash flows, portfolios, and asset liability management. The course emphasizes setting up appropriate mathematical modes using time value of money, annuities (both immediate and due), amortization, bonds (with or without coupons), yield curves, immunization, duration, and convexity. The course is designed to fully prepare students for the actuarial exams SOA FM and CAS 2. Prerequisites: MATH 0106 or permission of instructor. |
