Reading and analyzing literature by Indigenous American authors, students will develop understanding of contemporary Native American people's lives, cultures, and histories. Students will learn about authors' backgrounds; the cultural, political, and historical contexts of their work, their creative approaches, and some shared thematic concerns and literary strategies that characterize contemporary Native American literature. Students will develop skills for sharing what they learn with their communities.
