ENGL 0614 - Nonfiction, Critical Inquiry and Writing for the 21st Century

Credits: 3

This course is designed for those with a working knowledge of composition and writing pedagogy that includes enacting process-based and rhetorically-centered writing projects with students.  ELA and Education teacher-participants learn about and work to enact critical literacy instruction and support their K-12 ELA students in using writing to think critically about political, social, cultural, and personal issues reflected in media and public discourse.  Participants learn about supporting students as they read critically and engage with research and work with nonfiction texts in order to produce their own writing.  Course participants engage in teacher research as they design and then support students in producing dynamic nonfiction multimodal rhetorical projects that emerge from their students' interests.
