ENGL 0616 - Writing Centers for Middle and High Schools

This course is designed to provide an in-depth understanding of the role and function of writing centers in middle and high schools. The course will provide a brief history of writing centers, examine writing center best practices, and investigate theories and methods for creating an equitable writing center, such as universal design for learning, antiracism, and trauma informed pedagogy. We will also discuss the nuts and bolts of running a writing center including hiring practices, training tutors, and engaging with teachers.
