PSYC 0628 - Mental Disorder and Criminal Behavior

The purpose of this course is to review both theory and research on the relationship between various mental disorders and crime. Specifically, this course will address myths surrounding crime and mental health, neurodevelopmental disorders, substance-use disorders, schizophrenia, mood and anxiety disorders, sexual disorders, and personality disorders. For each topic, there will be class discussion both why and how these disorders are associated with various crimes, interaction between them and with other risk factors, their risk for future criminal incidents, and implications for assessment and intervention.
