MOVP 0113 - Fitness Walking

This course is designed to introduce students to the following: (1) history of pedestrianism; (2) types of walking; (3) strategies to integrate walking into one's daily life; (4) strategies to increase joy, gratitude, motivation, and satisfaction; and (5) psychological strategies and guidelines to help individuals/groups "stick" to a fitness walking program over time, including discussion of relapse prevention, burnout, and overtraining. Students will learn how to apply the FITT (Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type) Principle to fitness walking; in addition, to analyzing walking technique and posture. Most importantly, students will WALK during each class session. A variety of equipment and technology will be introduced that can be utilized to enhance students' psychological, emotional, and physical well-being. Finally, togetherness and the value of shared goals will be emphasized throughout the course to improve the experience of all participants.
