GPS 0552 - Planning Green Sustainable Cities

This graduate-level studio examines planning concepts and initiatives for green, sustainable cities, building students' understanding of sustainability and their ability to apply it to contemporary planning practice. The course explores the meaning and necessity of sustainability across key sectors, including urban form and transportation, energy and green buildings, food systems and waste management, environmental justice, and social equity. Students complete a term project that integrates course content through problem identification, literature review, data and case analysis, and the development of actionable recommendations for transforming an aspect of a city into a more green and sustainable system.
