SOCI 0317 - Deviance and Social Control

This course examines various behaviors considered as “deviant.” Beginning with definitions of deviance, the course analyzes the extent of deviant behaviors, theories and causes of deviant behavior, and the role of social control in defining what constitutes “deviance.” In the course, a broad range of behaviors are considered, with the aim of providing students with a distinctly sociological fram of reference through which a fuller understanding of such behaviors may be gained. Policy implications are also discussed.
