HIST 0279 - Latin American Revolutions

Credits: 3

An exploration of a variety of Latin American revolutions from independence in the early 1800’s to the present. The goal of this course is to understand how evolutionary movements emerge, why people choose to participate in such movements, and how counter-revolutions emerge. This course examines how factors such as race, class, gender, and ethnicity impact revolutionary movements. Case studies will be drawn from a variety of Latin American contexts, such as Haiti, Mexico, Cuba, and Nicaragua, which allows for a comparative study of this diverse and complex region.
