HIST 0291 - Expansion of Europe and Imperialism Credits: 3
This course covers topics between the year 1415 to the present. This includes the formation of both the “old” and “new” empires and a study of the modern relations between ex-colonies and their “mother countries”. Topics to be covered include the initial European exploration and colonization of Asia, Africa, and the “New World”. Additionally, conflict between European nations leading to the loss of most “old” empires by England, France, Spain, Portugal, and Holland will be traced. The remainder of the course is devoted to a study of the causes of the growth of the “new” empire under the general definition of the word imperialism.
