COMM 0210 - Communication, Culture, and Human Rights

Credits: 3

This course explores complexities of democracy and globalization in which communication practices, daily lives, and consumption indirectly contribute to promotion or abuse of human rights, both domestically and internationally. The course consists of three probes. The first probe examines the foundation of human rights. In the second probe, while exploring a dialectic intersection of race, class, gender, sexuality, nationality, education, and environment in the light of human rights, students analyze how communicative actions can address each issue. In the third probe, students demonstrate how they wish to address human rights through their daily interactions and consumption.
