MATH 0111 - Mathematical Applications Credits: 3
In this introductory course, students are exploring a range of real life situations that will naturally give rise to mathematical thinking, and mathematical structures, processes, and solutions. They discover how and why logical, mathematical, and computational ideas, concepts, and reasoning empower them to use and understand pattern, structure, data, shape and form to solve real world problems in a variety of disciplines. Applications may include such topics as number theory, patterns, counting methods, probability, fair division, finance, elections, circuits, and others. Students emphasize understanding, discovery, and collaborative learning. Students will use both critical and creative thinking in these processes.
Prerequisites: High School Algebra II.
