GNSC 0229 - Science, Technology, and Social Justice Credits: 3
This course provides an opportunity to explore how science and technology are co-constructed alongside the intersections of gender, race, ethnicity, class, religion, age, sexuality, mobility, and other factors that affect our lives and identities. Using an interdisciplinary approach, this course will consider science and technology in contemporary, cultural, and historical contexts using key concepts such as identity, inclusivity/exclusivity, representation, and distributive and restorative justice. Intersectional approaches will be used to examine how scientific knowledge, research, and technology can both perpetuate and challenge social inequalities. The role of science in society will be considered through a critical lens with the goal of fostering a deeper understanding of the ethical implications of scientific practices.
