THEA 0255 - Directing I: Searching for Theatrical Truth and Unity Credits: 3
This course introduces theories and techniques of stage direction, which are practiced through classroom exercises and assigned scene work. Topics include stage visualization, composition, picturization, movement, play analysis, dramatic structure, and collaboration techniques. Students learn to synthesize the various elements that contribute to a successfully directed theatrical production, including preproduction research, the development of a directorial approach, production casting and staffing, effective methods of collaboration with performers and designers, and the utilization of a range of theatrical devices that transform directorial ideas into concrete audience experiences.
