ENGL 0209 - The Graphic Novel
Credits: 3
This course introduces the genre of graphic narrative, including fiction and nonfiction, by focusing on materials for adults in English or in translation. Throughout the course, students will delve into the theory and practice of reading graphic narratives, exploring how to approach them, understanding their creation process, analyzing visual elements of the genre’s features, and cultivating an appreciation for them. Students will learn about the genre’s historical development and examine the rhetoric of visual storytelling, the symbolisms of sequential arts, and the reader’s reception.
