EDUC 0253 - Administration and Leadership in Early Childhood Care Credits: 3
This course is designed to provide an in-depth study of the understandings, knowledge, and skills essential to operating, managing, and supervising high quality child care and early education programs. Topics include effective leadership, the establishment of a program mission, state regulations and standards, legal and ethical issues, policies and administrative responsibilities, fiscal management, staff supervision and mentoring, program evaluation, family involvement and rights, health and safety issues, culturally sustaining curriculum and teaching practices, and community resources and outreach. This course meets Massachusetts Early Education and Care (EEC) expectations for Director/Administration coursework and is designed for students interested in leadership and program administration roles within Family Child Care, Out of School Time Care, and Center Based programs. The learning experiences in this course align with the Education Department’s commitment to Critical Engagement with Diversity, Community Building, and Social Justice. Field hours may be required depending on student’s program of study.
