ENGL 0221 - Exploring Global Stories
Credits: 3
Exploring Global Stories examines how literature and culture from underrepresented regions engage with questions of war, colonialism, migration, and identity. Drawing on works from South Asia, East Asia, Southwest Asia and North Africa (SWANA), Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond, the course considers how narratives reflect, resist, or complicate global hierarchies and historical legacies. Using storytelling as a critical lens, students analyze how literary and film narratives reveal cultural histories, ethical complexities, and the pursuit of justice. Emphasizing literary and film analysis alongside cultural interpretation, the course develops critical thinking, writing, and interpretive skills while cultivating intercultural fluency and deepening awareness of global diversity. This course fulfills the General Education requirement for Exploring Complex Issues Anchored in Arts and Humanities.
