Chemistry, Biochemistry Concentration, B.S.

The Chemistry Major with a concentration in Biochemistry provides students with a deep understanding and appreciation of biochemistry while fostering communication and research skills. Electives allow students to choose upper-level courses from Biology and Chemistry. It is designed for students planning to pursue careers for which a strong biochemistry background is required.

Note: Students may choose to take BIOL 0278 - Biostatistics instead of MATH 0108 - Elementary Statistics . Students interested in certain graduate programs may take MATH 0106 - Calculus II as their second math course, and the calculus-based physics sequence (PHSC 0125 - Physics I and PHSC 0127 - Physics II ) instead of the General Physics series.

Upper Level Electives (7-8 Credits)

Students are required to take 7-8 credits of elective courses, with at least 4 credits having a CHEM prefix. All 200-300 level Biology courses, including BIOL 0205 - Cell Biology , may be taken in partial fulfillment of the elective requirement. For example, taking CHEM 0311 - Instrumental Analysis and BIOL 0205 - Cell Biology would fulfill the elective requirement.
