Bioinformatics Minor

This Bioinformatics Minor provides a pathway for students to enter the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology. The minor includes courses in computer science, statistics, biology, bioinformatics, and data visualization, equipping students with foundational knowledge and practical skills in bioinformatics for analyzing large biological datasets to address challenges in human health, genomics, molecular biology, and biotechnology. This minor is intended for students from all majors, including Biology.

Requirements for Bioinformatics Minor (19-20 Credits)

Programming Courses (6 or 7 Credits)

Choose one of the following two courses:
CAIS 0102 - Computer Science Principles Credits: 3

Choose one of the following two courses:
CAIS 0120 - Computer Science/Program Design I Credits: 4

Statistics Course (3 Credits)

Choose one of the following two courses:
BIOL 0278 - Biostatistics Credits: 3
MATH 0108 - Elementary Statistics Credits: 3

Biology Lab Course (4 Credits)

Choose one of the following two courses:
BIOL 0129 - General Biology I Credits: 4
BIOL 0128 - General Biology II Credits: 4

Bioinformatics Course (3 Credits)

BIOL 0270 - Bioinformatics Credits: 3

Data Visualization Course (3 Credits)

Choose one of the following two courses:

Note:

In order to receive a Bioinformatics Minor, Biology Majors must take BIOL 0270, which cannot be applied toward the Biology Major.
