POLS 0337 - The World at War
Credits: 3
This course explores the question, “why do nations go to war?” from a political and socio-economic perspective. Leading theories of war will be examined. Students will also learn spatial and temporal peculiarities that have lead to the outbreak of major wars in recent history including, but not limited to, the Great War, the Second World War, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, among others. In discussing major wars, this course focuses on the political and economic background against which a crisis emerges and develops into a cataclysmic event. In addition to examining some “standard” interpretations of wars, this course looks into alternative, unconventional views.
