This course examines the politics and foreign policies of Middle East and North African nations. Emphasis will be given to contemporary issues such as the role of Islam in the state and society, authoritarianism and democratization, the politics of oil, regional conflicts and rivalries, the Isreali/Palestinian conflict, and the role of the U.S. in the Middle East.
