The Art Department offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with various concentrations and minors. Internships, both on and off campus, are available to all Art majors and minors. All courses are open to Westfield State University students who meet the proper prerequisites of each class.
The Arno Maris Art Gallery, located in the Ely Campus Center, is staffed by the Art Department and presents national and international exhibitions, as well as an annual student exhibition. The gallery also maintains the University’s Art Collection that contains many fine works of art, which are exhibited periodically across campus.
The art studios in The Catherine Dower Center for Performing and Visual Arts are open to all Art majors and students that are taking art classes for all of their studio-related projects. Students may participate in the Graphic Design and Fine Arts Clubs which, along with the department: sponsor trips to galleries throughout the year, participate in the creation of the University’s Persona Magazine, and participate in other campus-related activities. Trips to regional museums and galleries are a regular part of the department’s art classes, as well as presentations and workshops with regional and national visiting artists.
