ENGL 0350 - Methods of Teaching English in the Secondary and/or Middle School Credits: 4
This course prepares students for a career as a middle and/or secondary school English teacher. The course features theories and practice focused on: teaching strategies in speaking, reading, writing, and listening; lesson and unit design; incorporating students’ diverse backgrounds into curriculum design and implementation; differentiating to support and to challenge students; assessment techniques; presentation of lessons; collaborating with peers and colleagues; reflection on practice. A 30-hour field experience in an approved middle or high school is required for this course. Additional meetings outside class session will be scheduled to support students’ 30 hours of field experience and their Gateway assessments.
Prerequisites: 24 credits in the literature concentration and permission of the instructor.
