ENGL 0229 - Indigenous Artists Making Change

Credits: 3

Considers contemporary Indigenous artists in the genres of film, television, music, dance, theatre, visual arts, literature, comedy (and more) who use their forms of artistic expression to bring about social change while nourishing the continuance of cultural tradition and identity. These “Artivists” - artists who employ their art as a tool for social change - address a range of contemporary movements and social issues that are important to Indigenous people in the United States. Students will identify topics and artists of interest, develop research and creative projects inspired by their explorations, and ultimately educate a real audience based on their work in this course.

Prerequisites: At least one FYJ course and ENGL 0101 .
